The Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) held a strategic meeting with Sandra from Visa Card to explore possible areas of partnership, particularly around payment integration, tourism financing, and the growth of the Ghana Tourism Marketplace (GTM).
In attendance were the Chief Executive Officer of GTDC, Prof. Kobby Mensah; Dr. Tamakloe from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; the Deputy CEO of GTDC; and Mr. Seth Ocran, CEO of GHATOF — Ghana Tourism Federation.
During the meeting, Prof. Kobby Mensah recounted the mandate of GTDC and highlighted the company’s key products, with strong emphasis on the Ghana Tourism Marketplace. He explained that GTM serves as a digital platform that connects tourists to vendors, tourism products, services, and experiences, making it an important tool for Ghana’s tourism development agenda.
Prof. further expressed GTDC’s interest in integrating Visa Card payment solutions into the GTM platform to improve payment access, especially as the platform receives payments from both local and international users. He also enquired about Visa’s cross-border payment capacity and how the company could support GTDC’s wider tourism and investment efforts.
Sandra, on her part, explained Visa’s role as a global payment technology company involved in payment processing, disbursement, and collection solutions. She noted that while Visa does not directly engage in commercial investment activities, it supports partner institutions by connecting them to financial institutions and funding partners within its network.
Prof. also raised the need for financiers to support GTDC’s initiatives, especially as the company continues to expand its digital tourism platforms and investment-focused products. In response, Sandra indicated that Visa could explore conversations with credible financial institutions within Visa’s network to identify possible partnership and funding opportunities for GTDC.
The presence of Mr. Seth Ocran, CEO of GHATOF — Ghana Tourism Federation, further strengthened the conversation, as the Federation represents key private-sector tourism operators and stakeholders who stand to benefit from improved digital payment systems, financing opportunities, and wider access to tourism markets.
The engagement opened useful discussions on digital payment integration, tourism financing, and strategic partnerships to strengthen GTM and support the broader growth of Ghana’s tourism sector. Overall, the meeting reflected GTDC’s commitment to building strong partnerships that improve access, convenience, investment, and innovation within Ghana’s tourism ecosystem.
