The State Insurance Company, SIC Insurance, paid a working visit to the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC) as part of efforts to explore possible insurance service opportunities with the Company.

The engagement, which took place at the GTDC office, focused primarily on discussions around insurance cover for staff, with particular emphasis on health-related insurance solutions and other possible corporate insurance arrangements.

Welcoming the delegation, the Chief Executive Officer of GTDC, Prof. Kobby Mensah, took the opportunity to formally introduce himself and provide an overview of the Company’s mandate and current direction. He highlighted some of GTDC’s flagship initiatives, including the Ghana Tourism Marketplace (GTM), the Ghana Tourism Investment Platform (GTiP), and other strategic products being pursued by the Company to strengthen tourism development, investment, and commercial growth.

The discussion then shifted to the insurance needs of GTDC as an institution. Prof. Mensah used the opportunity to recount some of the Company’s operational challenges, including its financial constraints and the need for strategic partnerships that can support the welfare of staff while also protecting key company assets.

As the engagement progressed, the subject of AccraByNight, one of GTDC’s growing tourism products, was also brought into focus. The team discussed the need to insure the AccraByNight bus as part of efforts to protect the asset and ensure proper risk coverage for its operations. It was noted that the insurance cost could be treated as a charge on the operational amount associated with the service.

At the end of the meeting, both parties agreed on the next steps to guide further discussions. GTDC is expected to provide SIC Insurance with relevant details, including the total staff strength and salary information, to enable SIC to prepare an appropriate insurance proposal for consideration.

The visit marked another important step in GTDC’s efforts to build institutional partnerships that support staff welfare, asset protection, and the sustainable operation of its tourism products.
