According to Time Out’s 2026 ranking of the world’s best cities for nightlife, Accra placed 18th globally, making it the second-highest-ranked African city on the list.
Time Out noted that Accra’s nightlife extends beyond mainstream Afrobeats, with electronic music, alté, R&B and other subcultures contributing to the city’s distinctive after-dark identity. Accra was also recognised for its affordability, strong sense of community, music diversity, welcoming atmosphere and vibrant local culture.
The two African cities in the ranking Johannesburg and Accra were joined in the global top 20 by leading destinations such as Bangkok, which placed first, Berlin in second position and Melbourne in third.
This recognition shows that Africa’s leading nightlife destinations are increasingly competing on more than clubs and late-night entertainment. Affordability, community, diverse music and authentic cultural experiences are helping to shape their appeal to residents and visitors.
